A few kilometers outside of Athens, the urban landscape gives way to a unique breathtaking coastline, the Athens Riviera, where the sun shines bright and the sunsets are magical.  Along the Saronic Gulf coastline at a 40 minute drive from the city, you will find organized beaches and marinas.  The suburban sandy beaches of Vouliagmeni, Varkiza and Glyfada are some of the splendid beaches where you can stop for a perfect swim.

Vouliagmeni:  Its beach nestled in a beautiful location, before Mount Hymettus. A marina and private beach are its trademarks.  The picturesque harbor offers stunning views of the distant Saronic Gulf islands.  The private Astir Beach with a sandy beach and crystal clear waters, is one of Attica’s most luxurious and most popular beaches, with a concept based on innovative design, environment-friendly facilities and truly unique guest services.  Opposite from the Astir is the public beach, which has no facilities and therefore no entry fee.

Worth visiting is the magnificent natural landscape of Vouliagmeni Lake, famous for its natural hot springs and healing properties.  Dive into the therapeutic waters which maintain all year round a steady temperature of 24°C.

Varkiza:  An outstanding seascape unfolds with impressive coves below the coastal road, where you will have the chance to swim in free or organized beaches with azure waters.  Here you can exercise your favorite water sports, including Windsurfing since it is considered to offer the best windsurfing infrastructure.

Glyfada: One of the most elegant districts of Athens, stands out for its sandy palm fringed beaches.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch stop at a seaside traditional seafood tavern.

The ideal location to complete this tour is Cape Sounio.  Driving along the scenic coastal road, we arrive to the southernmost point of the Attica region (about 65 km from Athens).  At Cape Sounio, the cliff is crowned by the 6^th century BC Temple of Poseidon which is dedicated to the mythological God of the Sea.  The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea.  Enjoy the beautiful landscape and panoramic view, and relish the breathtaking sunset!

Optional: Before leaving Athens towards the coast, you may take a brief drive through the city to admire the views of the important landmarks and sites of the historical city center.
