Starting from Athens we begin our journey along the coastal National Highway.  Enroute we make a short stop at the Corinth Canal, to admire this engineering marvel.

Moving along to the south, on the narrow stretch of land that joins the Peloponnese to the mainland of Greece, we arrive at the ancient city of Corinth.   The site of ancient Corinth was first inhabited in the Neolithic period (5000-3000 BC), and flourished as a major Greek city from the 8th century BC.  Being a leading naval power as well as a rich commercial city, enabled ancient Corinth to establish colonies that served as trading posts for the richly ornamental bronze works, textiles, and pottery that Corinth produced.

Corinth played a major role in the missionary work of the Apostle Paul.  At the archeological site you will see the Bema, the public platform that was used for public announcements and judgments, and where St. Paul had to plead his case in front of the Roman governor Gallio under the accusations of contrary teachings (50s AD).

One of the major landmarks, is the 6th century BC Temple of Apollo, constructed at the height of the city’s wealth and is one of the oldest stone temples in Greece.   Inside the city wall, is the Asclepius sanctuary, dedicated to the God of medicine and healing.  We continue with a visit to the Museum of Ancient Corinth which contains a number of artifacts of religious interest.

At about 4 km from Ancient Corinth, we visit the Acrocorinth, the fortified acropolis, where you will see ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite.  Also, within the walls of Acrocorinth, you will find traces of different periods of occupation, such as the Turkish minarets and Byzantine ruins.

We conclude with a brief stop at Kechries, the port from where St. Paul sailed to Ephesus.

Furthermore, you will have the option to visit Nemea, the most important region for the production of red wines and considered the crown jewel of the new wine industry.  You will have the opportunity to visit a renowned Greek vineyard for some tasting of local wine varieties.  Or you may choose to relax and enjoy a traditional lunch at a local tavern before we return to Athens.
